MASS SPECTROSCOPY

Mass SpectrometerThe small molecule analyses are supported by their separation through a Thermo Scientific, UltiMate™ 3000 (pump, autosampler, column oven, UV-visible detector) HPLC system followed by their fragmentation through a Thermo Electron Corporation, LTQ-XL™ linear ion trap mass spectrometer (MS).

Differently than single quadrupole and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers (Selected Ion Monitoring [SIM] or Selected Reaction Monitoring [SRM], respectively), linear ion trap systems enable Consecutive Reaction Monitoring [CRM], which are successive fragmentations, resulting in precise species identification in every mass spectroscopy (MSn) step and facilitating molecule structural characterization. The LTQ-XL provides high-sensitivity mass data analyzes in the range of m/z 50-400.

The instruments are supplied with helium and CO2 gasses and their operability is handled by the Thermo Scientific Chromeleon™ and the XCalibur™ suites.
