Top Students in Sciences and Mathematics Recognized during Convocation of Scholars 2024
JONESBORO – The Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics at Arkansas State University recognized its most outstanding graduating students in 2023-24, according to Dr. Jennifer Bouldin, dean of the college. The Convocation of Scholars ceremony was held at the Cooper Alumni Center.
The Chancellor’s Scholar award was presented to Bao Nguyen of Vietnam. The Chancellor’s Scholar is the graduating student with the highest overall grade point average in the respective academic college.
The recipients of the 4.0 Scholar Award in addition to Nguyen were Jacqueline Vargas Ulloa of Mexico City, Mexico, Jackson Carr of Paragould, and Natan Gomez of Irapuato, Mexico.
The departmental awards are presented to the graduate in each degree program who has most excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Chemistry and Physics
Anna Claire Showalter of Searcy, Bachelor of Arts (BA), chemistry; Larrie Nation of North Little Rock, BS, chemistry; Bao Nguyen of Vietnam, BS, physics.
Mathematics and Statistics
Kelli Young of Mammoth Spring, Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE), mathematics; Yixing Wang of Ningbo, China, BS, mathematics; Jacob Antici of Batesville, BS, actuarial sciences.
Graduate Programs
Graduate student awards were presented to five master’s degree students and two doctoral degree candidates.
The students and their respective programs were: Auburn Ramsey of Georgetown, Ark., Master of Science (MS), biological sciences; Sarah Kinnison of Conway and James Austin Canard of Batesville, MS, mathematics; Anthony Adkins of Jonesboro, MS, statistics; Allegra Pieri of Kentfield, Calif., MS, environmental sciences; Alix Matthews of North Little Rock, Ph.D., molecular biosciences; and Brittany McCall of Clarksville, Tenn., Ph.D., environmental sciences.
The graduating ambassadors for the college also were recognized. They are Courtney Babcock of Paragould, Anna Bishop of Dexter, Mo., Diana Ashley of Conway, Matthew Luster of Brookland, Ethan Saffle of Bryant and Alexx Weaver of Lonoke.
