Biography

Dr. Chappel Daniel teaches a range of American Literature courses in the Department of English and Philosophy and is core faculty in the Ph.D. Program in Heritage Studies, where she teaches Concepts of Culture (a cultural theory seminar focusing on race, social class, and gender), Southern Literature and Culture, and Popular Culture. She also directs honors theses and doctoral dissertations, as well as independent studies. She previously served as Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Away from campus she has a busy personal life, married to Jerry Wayne Daniel. Her daughters Libby Lanum and Amy Oswalt four other grandchildren (Timothy Traylor, 16; Zachary Oswalt, 13; Kendall Harmon, 6; and Katy Oswalt, 5) are a huge part of her life as well (if you drop by her office, you can't miss their pictures). She loves travel, reading, gardening, and big family get-togethers at her home in Marion (yes, she commutes every day).
