A-State Officials to Host Emergency Access to Campus Meeting

07/07/2015

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University has extended an invitation to join campus officials to discuss emergency access to the university for responders.

The meeting is Thursday, July 9, at the newly constructed Humanities & Social Sciences building located at 2401 Aggie Road. Parking is available along Aggie Road, in the lot east of the Fine Arts building via Quapaw Street or the North Parking Deck at 111 North Caraway Road for convenient access to the venue and tour routes.

“Because our campus is changing, we are holding this event to familiarize emergency responders with the latest maps and access routes,” said Jon Carvell, university safety and emergency management coordinator.  Also, we want to express our appreciation for the support and partnerships we enjoy from our local emergency response community.”

The day gets underway with a meet-and-greet session at 10 a.m., followed by a presentation of new campus maps and an update on construction at 10:30 a.m. An open forum begins at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow at 11:30 a.m.

Participants will be assigned A-State radios at 12:30 p.m., so a driving tour of campus can be conducted over the airwaves. This will maximize the number of responders driving the routes in their marked vehicles, and add a multi-agency communication element to the exercise.  The session ends at 2 p.m.

“We want as many emergency responders as possible to have the opportunity to become more familiar with inner-campus access,” noted Carvell.
