JONESBORO – Arkansas Science Festival events are slated for Friday through Friday, Oct. 7-14, in Northeast Arkansas.

The 2016 Arkansas Science Festival will be launched with the "Mad Scientist Glo Run" and "Science Fun Night" on Friday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. on the Arkansas State University campus.

"The grant-supported Festival is now in its third year, has doubled in attendance, and has been cited in nationally circulated newsletters and a peer-reviewed journal," according to Dr. Amy Pearce, one of the festival directors along with Dr. Anne Grippo and Dr. Karen Yanowitz.  "Additionally, our events have been highlighted by the Science Festival Alliance as a model 'Just Add Science' program."

The following day, the Arkansas Science Festival will be the featured guest at the A-State Regional Farmers’ Market, offering hands-on science activities and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s mobile aquarium from 9 a.m. to noon.

"Science Slam" will be Sunday, Oct. 9, at One Love People, 223 South Main St. in Jonesboro.  Starting at 2 p.m., this is an afternoon of plays, poems and performances inspired by science.

Weekday events will include "Mindfulness, Biofeedback and Coloring" workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Reng Student Union, 1909 Suite.

The Craighead County-Jonesboro Public Library will host a family friendly "Maker Space" workshop on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Round Room.

"MatheMagic!" starring Bradley Fields will have two performances at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at Fowler Center on Friday, Oct. 14. The morning show has special pricing for student groups, with tickets available through the A-State Box Office.

Between MatheMagic shows, the ASU Museum is hosting a free "Science is Electric" program from 12:30-3 pm. Finally, the Jonesboro Area Brewers will close out festival events in Northeast Arkansas with the Science of Beer at The Arts at 311, at 311 S. Church St., that evening.

The festival is a collaboration of faculty, administrators, staff and students in the College of Education and Behavioral Science, the College of Sciences and Mathematics, the College of Nursing and Health Professions and the Office of Research and Technology Transfer, along with the Northeast Arkansas community.
