Arkansas State to Host Mobile Learning Workshop

01/12/2014

JONESBORO, Ark. — Arkansas State University will host the first-ever multi-campus mobile learning workshop entitled “Connect,” Thursday, Jan. 16.
There is no charge for the workshop; however, seating is limited so those interested in attending should RSVP by calling (870) 972-3570.

All panel discussions will be held in Wilson Hall on campus and the luncheon with keynote speaker is in Centennial Hall in the Carl R. Reng Student Union.
The workshop will show how the A-State faculty has integrated iPads into learning environments for enhanced engagement, impromptu research, and heightened critical thinking.

The featured guest speaker is Joel Davies along with a series of best practices to be presented by the faculty of Arkansas State.

Davies joined Apple as a higher education curriculum development executive in May 2012. He spent the previous 13 years as an associate professor of Graphic Design and Development in the Department of Journalism, Media & Computing at Creighton University.

He was awarded the Father Kelley Teaching Innovation Award for the initial graphic design curriculum.  Over the last few years of his tenure at Creighton, Davies led a complete overhaul to merge the two departments of computer science and the journalism, media and computing department to offer 21st century degrees with deep roots in 21st century teaching and learning.

He also founded the Creighton Apple Authorized Training Center and advised Studio Blue, a student-run design agency.  Davies is an Apple Distinguished Educator from the class of 2007.

During his summers, he taught design and advanced video production for Marquette University in their Italian study abroad program.  He was a regular speaker at the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities Communications Conference advising other Jesuit schools on methods to update curriculum and technology to emerging standards.
Check-in for the workshop is 8:30-9 a.m. at the Student Union Heritage Lounge. Following the panel discussions, there will be a tour of the IT Store on campus.
