ASU Theatre Announces Cast and Crew for Production of ‘Rhinoceros,’ April 12-13, 15-17

03/27/2013

JONESBORO -- Arkansas State University Theatre has announced the cast of the April production of “Rhinoceros,” by Eugene Ionesco. The production is under the stage direction of Tim Bohn, assistant professor of theatre.

“Rhinoceros” will be performed at Fowler Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, and Monday through Wednesday, April 15-17.

In Ionesco’s story, “The sublime is confused with the ridiculous.  One roaring citizen becomes a rhinoceros and proceeds to trample on the social order and besieges a small town.  As more citizens are transformed into rhinoceroses, the trampling becomes overwhelming, and more and more citizens become rhinoceroses.  One sane man, Berenger, remains unable to change his form and identity,” according to a synopsis.

The cast includes Jaelyn Epps, a sophomore theatre major from Little Rock, as the Waitress; Payton Overturf, a sophomore theatre major from Cabot, as the Grocer’s wife; Sarah Ring, a sophomore theatre major from Cabot, as the Housewife; Tyler Gartska, a senior theatre major from Cabot, as Berenger; Jordan Phillips, a junior theatre major from El Dorado, as Jean; Garrett Lenzen, a freshman theatre major from Morrilton, as the Grocer; and Clint Stevens, a sophomore theatre major from Huntsville, as the Gentleman/Fireman.

Others are Alaina Rene Kizer, a freshman theatre major from Conway, as the Logician; Jeremy Smith, a freshman theatre major from Dumas, as the Café Proprietor; Morgan Carvell, a freshman theatre major from Bentonville, as Daisy; Josue Pollnow, a senior theatre major from Santander, Spain, as Dudard; Dru Ergle, a sophomore theatre major from Jonesboro, as Botard; Jacob George, a freshman theatre major from El Dorado, as Mr. Papillon; and Brooke Thomas, a freshman theatre student from Jonesboro, as Mrs. Boeuf.

Scenic design will be by Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre, and lighting design will be by Evan Palumbo, a junior theatre major from Salem. Matt Currie, a senior theatre major from Cabot, will serve as costume designer.  Claire Abernathy, assistant professor of theatre, will serve as designer of hair, makeup and masks.  Hunter Moody, a senior theatre major from Walnut Ridge, will be sound designer.  Vanessa Williams, a sophomore theatre major from Cabot, and Ashley Pratt, a freshman theatre major from El Dorado, will serve as props supervisors.  Stage management duties will be handled by Cody Campbell, a junior theatre major from Jonesboro.
