Chancellor to Present Record Number of Degrees at Fall Commencement

JONESBORO – Chancellor Kelly Damphousse will present a record number 1,593 degrees during Arkansas State University’s fall commencement ceremony, Saturday, Dec. 8, at 12 p.m., in First National Bank Arena on campus. The number of issued diplomas in the fall surpasses the previous mark of 1,474 in 2017.

Graduates from seven colleges including Agriculture, Neil Griffin College of Business, Education and Behavioral Science, Engineering and Computer Science, Liberal Arts and Communication, Nursing and Health Professions, and Sciences and Mathematics, along with undergraduate studies, will receive doctorate, specialist, master, bachelor and associate degrees. 

Additionally, Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) cadets will be commissioned during a ceremony, Friday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m. in the auditorium in the First National Bank Arena.

Dr. Po-Lin Pan, associate professor of strategic communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Communication, will speak on behalf of the faculty at graduation. Dr. Pan was selected as the recipient of the excellence in scholarship award at the Faculty Honors Convocation ceremony during the spring semester. He was recognized for his extensive research publications.

Fumi Kubota of Koto-ku, Japan, will provide remarks on behalf of the graduating class. Kubota is graduating summa cum laude and receiving a Bachelor of Music Education degree in instrumental music. She owns the highest grade point average and is graduating with the most hours. She has also been named to the Chancellor’s List each semester she has been at A-State.

Arkansas State’s commencement ceremony will be streamed live at AState.edu/livestream.

Following the commencement ceremony, there is a reception for all graduates and families at the north mezzanine.

Delayed Commencement Start this Weekend

In anticipation of potential winter weather this weekend, we are delaying the start of our Fall Commencement ceremony two hours to allow Facilities Management additional time to prepare the parking lots, roads, and walkways.

The 2018 Fall Commencement for Arkansas State University will now begin at noon this Saturday, Dec. 8, at First National Bank Arena. Parking lots and doors will open at 10 a.m., and graduates are asked to report by 11 a.m.
