'Chimera' Opens at Bradbury Gallery, Oct. 16

10/08/2014

JONESBORO – Bradbury Gallery will host an exhibition, titled “Chimera,” which features recent artwork by Nikki Arnell and Joe Ford, two faculty members from the Arkansas State University Department of Art.  The exhibition will open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m., and will continue through Nov. 12.

An interest in the communicative power of art led Arnell from mid-western Indiana to Denver, where she spent a decade working in the fast-paced world of advertising. From creating designs for local shops to art direction for major brands like Procter & Gamble and Coors Brewing Co., this period provided her with experiential education, earning her awards for her work in the process.

While freelancing, she accepted a teaching position that ultimately changed her desired career path.   She then entered Colorado State University to work toward a Master of Fine Arts degree with a plan to continue teaching at the college level.   In 2010 Arnell joined the Department of Art at A-State where she teaches graphic design.

Ford is an artist and assistant professor of digital design.  A native Arkansan, Ford studied studio art at A-State and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

His work has been exhibited in venues across the country. His current work consists of sculpture, video installation and photography that investigates the ease with which technology asserts itself into our daily lives, the advantages gained, and the darker side of unlimited access.

Arnell and Ford will discuss their artwork at a public talk in the Bradbury Gallery on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m.

Bradbury Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and by appointment.  The gallery is closed on Mondays.

The exhibition, the reception and the gallery talk are admission-free and open to the public.  For more details, contact the Bradbury Gallery at (870) 972-3471, by email at bradburygallery@astate.edu, or visit the website, bradburygallery.com.
