Choirs to Present Spring Concerts, April 27 & 28

JONESBORO – The Arkansas State University Choirs will be performing their spring concerts on Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28, both at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center,  Riceland Hall, 201 Olympic Dr. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 27

The A-State University-Community Choir, Chamber Singers, and Concert Choir, all conducted by Dr. Dale Miller and assisted by graduate assistant Kane Bradley, will be presenting their concert on Monday, April 27.

Selections to be performed by the University-Community Choir are “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” from “Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi; “Neighbors Chorus” from “La Jolie Parfemeuse” by Jacques Offenbach; “Gloria” from “The Masque of Angels” by Dominic Argento; “Masquerade” from “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with soloists Nikki Winn, Eva Michelle Shotwell, Kane Bradley and Hal Niederbrach; “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from “Hairspray” by Shaiman/Whittman and arranged by Emerson; and “Finale” from “Gondoliers” by Gilbert and Sullivan.

The Chamber Singers will be following with performances of “Stabat Mater” by Gyorgy Orban, “Lebenslust” by Franz Schubert, “Lerchengesang” by Felix Mendelssohn, “Corydon, Arise” from “Six Elizabethan Pastorals” by Charles Villiers Stanford, and “Whether Men Do Laugh or Weep” from “In Windsor Forest” by Ralph Vaughn Williams.

Ending the concert will be the Concert Choir will performances of “Stabat Mater” by G.P. da Palestrina, “Oh Schone Nacht” by Johannes Brahms, “Ecce Panis Angelorum” by Jonathan Adams, “This Marriage” by Eric Whitacre, and “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel” by Moses Hogan.

Pianists for the evening are Brian Henkelmann and Lauren Schack Clark. This concert is also in partial fulfillment of the graduate in choral conducting degree for Kane Bradley.

Tuesday, April 28

The A-State Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir and Delta Vox will be presenting their concert on Tuesday, April 28.

Conductors for the evening are Cheri Collins, graduate assistant Kane Bradley, and Dr. Kyle Chandler.

Selections to be performed by the A-State Women’s Choir include “Hail Holy Queen” by Marc Shaiman, “Rumor Has It” adapted by women's chorus, “Hotaru Koi” by Ro Ogura, “Ave Rosa” by Jonathan Adams and “Yo le Canto el Dia” by David L. Brunner. 

The A-State Men’s Choir will be performing selections of “Prayer of the Children“ by Andrea Klouse, “Soar to the Infinite” by Jonathan Adams, “Blades of Grass and Pure White Stones” arranged by Keith Christopher, “Tell My Father” by Andrea Ramsey, and “If You've Only Got A...” by J. K. Bradley.

The A-State Delta Vox will be performing “ASU Alma Mater” arranged by Tom O’Connor, “Hit the Road Jack” by Percy Mayfield and arranged by Delta Vox, “and “Oye Como Va” by Tito Puente and arranged by Joe Herbert and Bianca Herbert.  Pianists for the evening are Yi Bao and Christopher Dixon.
