Applications are now being accepted for the 1909 Scholarship at Arkansas State University.

The 1909 Society Scholarship is an annual award given to an undergraduate who is active in campus leadership.  The award is $1,000 annually, paid $500 per semester, contingent on available funds and fulfillment of volunteer hours.

Applicants must be in good standing with the university, enrolled full-time (12 hours or more), and have earned a minimum of 60 ASU credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.  The recipient is required to volunteer at least eight hours during the academic year to raise awareness of the 1909 Society, with four or more of these volunteer hours taking place during the fall semester.  If applicable, the recipient may re-apply the following year.

This scholarship is provided by young alumni donors who join the 1909 Society, and is administered through the ASU Office of Alumni Relations.  The selection committee is composed of 1909 Society members.

Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by a representative of a campus organization or an ASU faculty or staff member. To apply, students or the nominator must submit a brief written statement of no more than 300 words describing the student’s campus activities, leadership roles, and how receiving this scholarship will impact them financially.  The statement should be e-mailed to: alumni@astate.edu

The application deadline is midnight on April 27, 2012.  Applications will be acknowledged upon receipt.
