Department of Music to present Jazz Bands and Victor Goines in Lecture-Concert Series

JONESBORO – Students in two big bands and two jazz combos at Arkansas State University will join international jazz artist Victor Goines for an evening of unforgettable swing and sway on Thursday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center, Riceland Hall.

Goines’s appearance is sponsored by the Lecture-Concert Series at Arkansas State. The jazz bands are directed by Dr. Ken Carroll, associate professor of music.

The concert is open to the public, and admission is free.

The program will include “Easin’ It” by Frank Foster, “Time Check” by Don Menza, “In a Mello Tone” by Ellington/Nelson, “Perfect Leather Coat” by John Fermgen, “Little Chicago Fire” by Frank Foster, “Other Brothers” by Mike Tomaro, “The Jody Grind” by Silver/Clayton, and “Blue Trane” by Coltrane/Berg.

The director of jazz studies at Northwestern University, Goines is a woodwind artist and member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

Known around the world for his powerful clarinet playing and tenor saxophone mastery, his performance with Arkansas State Jazz Bands is the highlight of the jazz concert series and a “don’t miss” opportunity for the community to hear the outstanding A-State students perform with world class talent, according to a spokesman for the Department of Music.

Personnel for the Jazz Bands are: Clinton Curtis and Aaron Decker, alto saxophone; Cody Ballard and Brandon Moore, Tenor Saxophone; Lauren Dudley, baritone saxophone; T.J. Irving, Matt Penny, Joshua Mobley, Josh Poff, Adonias Finch and Seth Jansen, trumpet; Chris Smith, Adam Waddell, Daniel Harrelson and Dalton Henson, trombone; Alex Ditto, guitar; Garrett Tyler and Addison Boling, drums; Tyler Worsham and Tim Moore, piano; and Terrell Montgomery, bass.

The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State University and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the ASU campus, according to Dr. Tim Crist, chair of the Lecture-Concert Committee.
