LinkedIn Expert Wayne Breitbarth to Offer Career Advice to Students, Faculty and Alumni
JONESBORO – A university diploma is wonderful, and it really pays dividends when it leads to gainful employment. In today's economic climate, however, one's preparation for entering the job market must start well before graduation day.
One of the nation's leading consultants on using social media to launch and advance one's career is coming to Arkansas State University to share his expertise with students, faculty and alumni.
Wayne Breitbarth, chief executive officer of Power Formula LLC, is an experienced businessman, speaker, author and a nationally recognized industry leader in LinkedIn training and marketing.
As part of the fifth annual Create @ STATE symposium, Breitbarth will be keynote speaker at a luncheon for A-State students. Lunch is provided free to the first 200 students who come for the plenary session, which will be in Heritage Plaza Lounge, Reng Student Union, on Tuesday, April 7, starting at 12:30 pm.
Beginning at 1 p.m., students will hear his presentation on why a professional presence on LinkedIn and other professional social networks is vital for career success in the current environment.
"This is such a valuable professional initiative that students need to take advantage of from the beginning of their student experience," said Korey Speaight, a senior accounting and business management major from Camp, Arkansas. "Seems like I am graduating too soon. I wish the university could have implemented this initiative when I was starting my student career at Arkansas State."
Breitbarth also will give tips to students on developing a strategy for using professional social networks most effectively to help attract prospective employers and network to discover new career opportunities.
A perk for A-State students is a professional photo booth in the Student Union. Students are encouraged to come in business attire and have a free portrait made for their resume and professional profile. The booth will be in operation from 10 a.m. until the luncheon, then it will resume at 2 and continue until 5 p.m.
That evening at Cooper Alumni Center, Breitbarth will talk with faculty during a reception that begins at 5:30 p.m. He will meet with A-State alumni and community leaders at a breakfast the next morning, also at Cooper Center, starting at 7 a.m.
Breitbarth's credibility is evidenced by his book, "The Power Formula for LinkedIn Success: Kick-start Your Business, Brand and Job Search," which was the #1 LinkedIn book for more than a year on Amazon.com.
He has helped individuals throughout the career spectrum, from entry level to CEO, to combine their previous experience and relationships through the innovative aspects of LinkedIn. The result, he says, helps participants " . . . to more successfully brand and market themselves and their businesses."
A certified public accountant, Breitbarth has shared his expertise with more than 40,000 business professionals through private business consulting and dynamic presentations to local and national audiences.
Breitbarth earned a master of business administration degree from Marquette University, and has been recognized for his public service contributions in the Milwaukee community, where he resides with his wife of 30 years.
