09/29/2020

JONESBORO – After completing a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science at Arkansas State University in May, Megan Bright is now engaged in veterinary medicine studies.

Bright, who followed the pre-vet emphasis in the College of Agriculture and minored in biological sciences, received the Alpha Lambda Delta Graduate Fellowship to pursue graduate study.  She was accepted by the veterinary medicine school at Mississippi State University.

A native of Bradford, she worked as an undergraduate research assistant at Arkansas Biosciences Institute at A-State as a sophomore, studied abroad twice, in Italy and Eastern Europe, and was an Honors College student.

"I am incredibly thankful to be a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and to have received the ALD Graduate Fellowship," Bright stated.  "This award puts me one step closer to achieving my life-long dream of becoming a veterinarian. If I could give some advice to my younger self, I would say work hard, seize every opportunity, and never give up. You never know what great things are waiting for you just around the corner."

While at A-State, she also served as chapter president of Delta Tau Alpha agricultural honor society and participated in Pre-Vet Club and Sigma Alpha sorority.  She was Gearhead Outfitters Student Ambassador, played intramural basketball, and volunteered at the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society and Bill and Alice Nix Petting Zoo.

"The College of Agriculture is proud of Megan and congratulates her on this prestigious award," stated Dr. Mickey Latour, dean.  "We know she will continue to do great things in the future and look forward to seeing her contributions."

Dr. Donald (Bud) Kennedy, associate dean and professor of animal science, also offered his congratulations to Bright on receiving the fellowship, adding, "I am very proud of Megan and wish her all the best as she continues to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian."

After completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State, Bright plans to pursue a career as a veterinarian for the U. S. Army Veterinary Corps or the U.S. Department of Agriculture before moving on to mixed animal private practice.

She and her sister Sierra, a junior at A-State, are daughters of Bill and Jeannie Bright of Bradford.
