Members of Veterinary Med School Task Force are Named

JONESBORO – The inaugural members of the Arkansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine Task Force have been named by its chair, Dr. Donald “Bud” Kennedy, interim dean of the College of Agriculture, this week.

Joining previously named members, A-State Provost Alan Utter and Dr. Summer Deprow, who is assistant vice chancellor for assessment and accreditation, are 12 other members of the campus faculty and local community.

The task force recently met online to discuss next steps in the process.

Faculty members appointed to the task force include Dr. David Newman, associate professor of animal science and the president of the National Pork Board; Arianne Pait, assistant professor of communications disorders and owner-operator of E.H. Pait Quarter Horses; Dr. John Hershberger, associate professor of chemistry.  Both Pait and Hershberger are also members of the A-State Faculty Senate.

Dr. Jerry Miller, D.V.M., co-owner of Veterinary Healthcare Clinic and the president-elect Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association was joined by Randall Pope, member of the College of Agriculture’s Advisory Council, as community participants.

Recently appointed Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Cherisse Jones-Branch, will serve along with Dr. Lynn Boyd, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics; Dr. Tom Risch, vice chancellor for research and technology transfer and executive director of Arkansas Biosciences Institute at A-State; and Dr. Karen Wheeler, senior associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, as members of the A-State administration.  The university’s incoming dean for the College of Agriculture, Dr. Mickey Latour, will be joining the committee at its next gathering.

Representatives of the system office round out the committee with Katherine Prescott, senior associate general counsel, and Jeff Hankins, system vice president for strategic communications and economic development.
