North Texas Percussion Ensemble and Drumline to Perform

JONESBORO – The Department of Music at Arkansas State University will present the University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble and Marching Drumline in concert on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center’s Riceland Hall.  Dr. Mark Ford, the director, also will present a percussion clinic prior to the concert, 6-7 p.m., in Riceland Hall.  Both events are free and open to the public.

The University of North Texas Percussion ensemble, under Ford's direction, will present their competition showcase concert.  All of the pieces are world premieres.  These pieces include “IE2” by Mark Ford, “Entropy Variations” by David Hall, “Convex” by Brian Nozny, “Twisted Metal” by Corey Robinson, and “Ornithology” by Charlie Parker and arranged by Rich DeRosa.  This piece will feature Ed Soph on the drum set.

The North Texas Drumline will also take the stage.  This group is under the direction of Paul Rennick and has been the first place drumline for many years at the International Percussive Arts Convention.

As one of 13 colleges and schools at the University of North Texas, the College of Music has been among the largest music institutions of higher learning in North America since the 1940s.
