Phi Beta Lambda, Target Store to Hold Back-to-School Event for A-State Students

08/18/2016

JONESBORO — With the start of classes just days away, Arkansas State University’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) organization is joining forces with the Target store at the Mall at Turtle Creek to hold a back-to-school event, Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m.-noon. The store is partnering with the College of Business student group for this effort.

The store will have 2,000 coupons toward purchasing school supplies and 1,000 gift bags to give to A-State students at the store while supplies last. In addition, Target plans to create a fun shopping experience for the students that day.

“We are excited about this opportunity,” said Bryce Rusco, executive team leader at Target. “We have been in the community since 2005, and this is the first time for this type of event. With a successful event this year, we will open the door for a larger scale event in the coming years.”

PBL is the collegiate division of Future Business Leaders of America, whose goal is to develop leadership, communication and team skills. It is also an organization for students to meet and network with others at the local, state or national levels. The PBL academic competitions provide students with what it takes to be successful by covering technology, public speaking, business, finance and management.

“We think this is a great opportunity to get students excited about the upcoming school year, and help anyway we can to reduce the costs of college,” said Dr. Philip Tew, assistant professor of finance and PBL chapter adviser. “It is great to be able to partner with Target to get this to happen.”

Free bus transportation will be provided to the Target store beginning at 9 a.m. at the Chi Omega Fraternity Fountain located on the west side of the Carl R. Reng Student Union. The bus will run back and forth to Target each hour.

Classes at Arkansas State begin Monday, Aug. 22.
