Rod Saavedra Named as new Director of First National Bank Arena
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University has named Rod Saavedra as the new director of First National Bank Arena.
“Rod brings a unique set of skills and experiences that ideally prepares him to lead First National Bank Arena. His experience with event management in various markets and the relationships he has developed in the entertainment industry will be instrumental to his ability to continue to bring outstanding entertainment to Northeast Arkansas," said Dr. Len Frey, executive vice chancellor for finance, administration and COO.
Before taking on this role, Saavedra was assistant director of civic facilities at Salem Civic Center in Virginia. He also worked as director of events at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center in South Carolina.
“I am honored and thrilled to join A-State. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to work alongside the talented team here and collaborate with the athletic department to elevate the university's sporting events,” said Saavedra.
Frey emphasized Saavedra has proven experience in managing athletic facility operations, including excellent communication skills that are necessary to guide a multipurpose facility.
Saavedra is an active member of the International Association of Venue Managers, through which he graduated from Venue Management School in 2019, followed by the Graduate Institute in 2023. He is also an active participant in the International Entertainment Buyers Association.
“I am committed to making the arena the heart of excitement for both Jonesboro and our A-State students. I look forward to bringing a diverse range of shows and entertainment that will captivate audiences and create unforgettable experiences,” he added.
Saavedra wants the public to know about upcoming events taking place at First National Bank Arena.
“We're thrilled to announce two exciting events coming up. Zach Williams will perform Sunday, Sept. 29, and Brantley Gilbert will take the stage Friday, Oct. 4,” he said.
