Aseptic handling of plant cells and tissues is performed in clean bench hoods installed in 3 rooms designed for this work. These rooms are equipped with essential instruments for this purpose, including gas/alcohol burners, tool sterilization instruments, dissecting stereoscopes, water-bath incubators, and microcentrifuges, among others.
For particular genetic engineering experiments, the Bio-Rad PDS-1000/He™ biolistic system is available. This instrument introduces nucleic-acid-coated gold or tungsten microparticles into cells/tissues/organelles with a burst of high-pressure helium gas.
