Welcome to Arkansas State University!

Eligibility for Transportation

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, disability alone does not qualify a person for transportation services. The AAS Transportation Program is available to the following general groups of persons with disabilities:

  • Arkansas State University students who have a specific disability, impairment, and/or condition that prevents them from fully engaging in a major life activity (i.e., walking) to/from academic buildings.

  • Arkansas State University students who need a wheelchair accessible golf cart to/from academic buildings due to physical constraints.

  • Arkansas State University students for which no other equitable accommodation can be made to/from academic buildings (i.e., ADA accessible parking).

How to Apply for AAS Transportation

**Skip step 1 if you have already completed the registration process**

  1. Complete the AAS registration process. Paper applications are available if necessary.
    • Submit online registration form and documentation of disability.
    • Complete an intake meeting with an AAS counselor.
  2. Read the Transportation Program Operating Procedure.

  3. Complete the transportation form. Paper applications are available if necessary.

Eligible students will be put on the schedule for regular pick-ups. The student will receive their schedule via A-State email from the Transportation Coordinator within 24 hours if all information is filled out correctly and medical documentation is verified. Weekends, holidays, and/or campus closures will delay response times.

Students with temporary, minor injuries or conditions (broken leg, sprained ankle, etc.) are not protected under 504/ADA, but AAS will try to support you as much as reasonably possible.

Verifying ADA Accessible Parking (Disability Parking)

As of spring 2024, all verification of ADA accessible parking is handled through Parking Services. Any individual with state-issued accessible parking should contact Parking Services to be issued an ADA sticker for their parking permit.

Steps to obtain accessible parking through the state:

    1. Have your healthcare provider fill out form 10-336.
    2. Take the completed form and your valid ID/driver's license to the DMV to be issued accessible parking (temporary or permanent).
    3. Bring your paperwork from the DMV to Parking Services to be issued the appropriate Tier 1 sticker.
