Backyard Camp Out

Each day will be a camp-out filled with all the activities needed for camping - pitching a tent, flashlight activities to use in the dark, a pretend camp fire with marshmallows and graham crackers, and of course, beanie-weenies and crackers! Create a sky full of stars easily seen without the bright city lights. Play with S'mores playdough. Of course, you will want to go fishing and beware of bears! And, whatever will we do without electronics? Cupcake Wars is self-explanatory for anyone who watches Food Network TV! Join us for fantastic daily competitions, including “Create your own Cupcake Recipe” “Cupcakes using Ganache” “Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes”. You have heard of the Blind Auditions on the TV program, The Voice, well we are having the Blind Taste Tests where you sample others’ creations and vote, without knowing who the pastry chef is. Winners of the different divisions of Cupcake Wars will be announced frequently and by categories, just like on Food Network – taste, texture, originality, and appearance! And on Thursday ultimate winners of the week will be announced – by age groups of course!

Sharpen your camera skills in this Digital Photography Boot Camp and explore the multi-step process of using a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. Whether you’re new to photography or looking to further develop your artistic view, the A-State School of Media and Journalism is the perfect environment to learn digital photography in all its aspects. Students will be able to work at their own pace, while learning the fundamentals of digital photography and it's post-production workflow and techniques. This 5-day course will provide the time necessary to create new work and or refresh already acquired skills. In this workshop you will:
- Gain an understanding of the principles of photography, while learning the fundamental skills necessary to compose engaging images.
- Learn how to optimize exposure through aperture and shutter adjustments
- Learn the basics of studio lighting
- Gain an understanding of workflow and digital asset management
- Learn and experiment with digital image processing software in Adobe Photoshop CC

Multimedia Journalism Bootcamp

This camp will introduce to you the principles of journalism and build upon that foundation by reporting and writing local stories. Students will learn the basics of news writing, layout and design, audio reporting, video reporting, and photojournalism. You will sharpen your editing skills by using Adobe’s Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign, Audition and Premiere software to edit content. The camp is individualized to a degree because of each person’s interests and abilities. So, whether you’re new to journalism or looking to further develop your journalistic IQ, A-State’s School of Media & Journalism is the perfect environment to learn multimedia journalism in all its aspects. Although journalism is a deadline-oriented practice, students will be able to work at their own pace, while establishing a solid foundation. This 5-Day course will provide the time necessary to create new work and or refresh already acquired skills. In this workshop you will:
- Gain an understanding of the principles of journalism, while learning the fundamental skills of reporting.
- Use your mobile phone to capture audio, video and quality still photos

BAM Art Camp

We invite your child to join us for summer camp at Bradbury Art Museum! Participants will visit Bradbury Art Museum for five days of art-making and exploration in order to create a collaborative group art exhibition inspired by the work of painter-printmaker Mary Ann Strandell.
While at BAM, students will receive a guided tour of Strandell’s solo exhibition Transit Terrain and Other Spatial Narratives. They will then join BAM staff in exploring materials and methods based on Strandell’s interdisciplinary work.
Artwork created in the camp will then be displayed in our hallway gallery from July 25th – August 30th.
