Honors College Scholarships


Shelby Rhodes Honors Scholarship

Deadline:  April 4, 2024


An eligible recipient must meet the following requirements:

1. Demonstrated leadership and involvement in the Honors College;
2. Commitment to service both on and off campus;
3. Demonstrated academic excellence both in and outside the classroom;
4. Good academic standing in the Honors College (3.00+ overall GPA);
5. Junior or Senior standing at the time of use of funds;
6. Financial need may be taken into consideration;
7. Finalists for the scholarship may be interviewed.


What the scholarship provides:

1. Scholarship award is $1,000 for the academic year ($500 in fall; $500 in spring);
2. Scholarship can be used for summer study abroad at the student’s request and with approval from the Honors College;
3. Scholarship cannot be renewed and recipients can only receive the scholarship one time.


How to maintain the scholarship:

1. Must be enrolled in an Honors course each semester the scholarship is received;
2. Remain in good academic standing (3.00+ overall GPA) in the Honors College for scholarship renewal in the spring semester;
3. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credit hours each semester (fall and spring). Graduating seniors are allowed to have 12 credit hours in their final semester if they do not need 15 credit hours to graduate.

Chloe Vaught Memorial Scholarship

Deadline:  April 4, 2024


An eligible recipient must meet the following requirements:

  1. Demonstrated involvement in the Honors College;
  2. Majoring in Biology or Chemistry;
  3. Commitment to community service and volunteering, both on and off campus;
  4. Demonstrated academic excellence both in and outside the classroom (3.50+ overall GPA);
  5. Junior or Senior standing at the time of use of funds;
  6. Preference given to students from Arkansas, but not mandatory;
  7. Financial need may be taken into consideration;
  8. Finalists for the scholarship may be interviewed.

What the scholarship provides:

  1. Scholarship award is $1,000 for the academic year ($500 in fall; $500 in spring);

Hazel Deutsch Honors Scholarship for Outstanding Performance

Deadline:  April 4, 2024


An eligible recipient must meet the following requirements:

  1. Junior or senior standing at the time of use of funds;
  2. Has demonstrated outstanding performance in the Honors College;
  3. Does not currently receive the following scholarships:
    • A-State Scholar, or
    • A-State Excellence Scholarship; and
  4. Has a minimum GPA of 3.25.
  5. Demonstrated financial need may be taken into consideration.
  6. The selection committee may consider current recipient for renewal if criteria continues to be met; students must resubmit an application annually to be considered for renewal.

Hoeper Family Honors Scholarship for Non-Arkansas Residents

Deadline:  April 4, 2024


An eligible recipient must meet the following requirements:

  1. Scholarship is available to students of all levels (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior);
  2. Student must be a permanent resident outside the state of Arkansas;
  3. First preference are out-of-state Honors students with an ACT of 30 and above;
  4. Second preference are out-of-state Honors students with an ACT of 26 - 29;
  5. Academic performance, financial need, and community service may be considered.
  6. The selection committee may consider current recipient for renewal if criteria continues to be met; students must resubmit an application annually to be considered for renewal.

V.C. & Bertie H. Kays Educational Scholarship for Academic Excellence

Deadline:  April 4, 2024


An eligible recipient must meet the following requirements:

  1. Sophomore standing or higher at time of use of funds.
  2. ACT score of 30 or higher or equivalent.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence through an essay provided with application.
  4. All finalists should be prepared for a personal interview.
  5. Only open to Bachelor’s degree students.
  6. As specified in the trust, no scholarships will be awarded in the athletic or physical education fields; or to persons who advocate legalizing the use of chemical substances that have an adverse effect upon the mental or physical well being of humans.
  7. It is understood that senior recipients will be working on an Honors Senior Thesis.

What the Scholarship Provides (these provisions encompass the total benefits provided by A-State and are inclusive of any benefits from other scholarships/awards)

  1. Awarded annually in spring for next fiscal year;
  2. Tuition and fees for up to 18 hours per semester;
  3. Possible stipend of up to $1,000 per semester;
  4. On-campus room and board.

NOTE:  Partial scholarships may be awarded.


How to Maintain the Scholarship

  1. May be maintained for up to six semesters or graduation if one begins as a sophomore;
  2. Must maintain a 3.5 GPA each semester to continue;
  3. Must enroll in a minimum of 15 hours per semester;
  4. Must enroll in at least one Honors course per semester;
  5. The selection committee may consider current recipient for renewal if criteria continues to be met; students must resubmit an application annually to be considered for renewal.
