Biography

KJ Phillips is a distinguished bass-baritone renowned for their electrifying voice and dynamic stage presence. With a reputation for captivating performances, vivid characterization, and enrapturing musical interpretation, Phillips has graced many stages and notable venues including the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, Spotlight on Opera in Louisiana, St. Peter’s Cathedral in Vatican City, and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. Their notable roles include Gianni Schicchi in Gianni Schicchi, The Stepmother in Cendrillion, The Secret Police Agent in The Counsul, and Charels Dickens in the World Premier of Notes on Viardot by Michael Ching.

Phillips is celebrated for their versatility, seamlessly navigating repertoire from the Baroque period to contemporary works, and excelling in both comedic and dramatic roles. Beyond their performance career, they teach as an adjunct professor of voice at Arkansas State University, and continue their studies as a doctorate of musical arts student at the University of Memphis. Phillips loves spending time with their dog and cat, reading fantasy and graphic novels, and maintaining their low maintenance garden of succulents.
