Biography
Dr. Mary Jackson-Pitts focuses her research on using new media for the common good. Most recently, her research has focused on the use of non-linear communities as support networks for individuals who are faced with self-harming behaviors. As the creative media production program coordinator, Dr. Pitts has worked to create innovative program curricula informed by program assessment. An advocate of pedagogy designed to create dynamic opportunities for students, Dr. Pitts works with a skilled faculty to deliver program excellence. Dr. Pitts teaches graduate students in the Master of Media Management program and Management and Entrepreneurship at the undergraduate level.
She is co-author of the book Online Community Therapy: The Support Network and has published articles in a variety of international, national, and regional publications, as well has written various book chapters. She serves as the Mass Communication Section co-coordinator for the World Social Science Association and is a member of the Broadcast Education Association. Dr. Pitts serves as a research reviewer for national and regional organizations, along with doing book reviews for publishers.
Dr. Pitts has been a faculty member at ASU since 1988 and through the years has served on community advisory boards, advocated for single parent scholarships, and worked with area schools to develop media programs designed to enhance the learning of students.
