Department: School of Teacher Education and LeadershipThe Pre-Kindergarten Academy is a specific initial licensure program for the Arkansas Pre-Kindergarten license. Admission includes admission to Graduate School, passing the required state Praxis Subject Licensure Exam for Arkansas Pre-Kindergarten/Early Childhood licensure, completion of at least eighteen college credit hours of approved professional area (early childhood) coursework, and working in an approved Pre-Kindergarten program. Six hours of coursework (ECH 5033, ECH 6053) are offered in the summer followed by a year-long internship in an approved setting.
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements to be considered for admission into the PreK Academy:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Overall GPA to meet Graduate School Admission
- 18 hours of approved early childhood college coursework
- Passing score on DESE approved Praxis exam - currently Praxis 5024, passing score 149 (this will change after the 2025 cohort)
- Teaching in an eligible Arkansas PreKindergarten program
