Wheeler Appointed Associate Vice Chancellor
Dr. Karen J. Wheeler is the new senior associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. Her responsibilities at her previous institution, UALR, included oversight of several areas she will manage at A-State under the recent reorganization of Academic Affairs. Among her notable achievements were Higher Learning Commission approval for two new campus locations for UALR and supervision of the concurrent enrollment program. Details are in a news release.

Bowman's Article Published in Historical Quarterly
An article by Dr. Michael Bowman, assistant professor in creative media production, was published in the latest Arkansas Historical Quarterly. In " 'Immoral or Otherwise Offensive Matter': Took Gathings' 1952 Investigation of Broadcasting," Bowman examined one of the first congressional investigations that was critical of violent and sexual content in broadcasting, especially in the budding television industry. It started a series of congressional investigations that continued for decades.

Carroll Wins Grant for Prototyping Equipment
Dr. Ross Carroll, assistant professor of physics, is principal investigator for the project, "Rapid Prototyping in Physical Science and Engineering Education." He wrote a successful equipment grant proposal to DENSO North America Foundation, resulting in a $50,000 award. Funds will be used to equip a laboratory with digital fabrication technologies, enabling A-State students can to engage in "rapid prototyping." See details in the news release.

English Teachers Blog Features Arkansas Entries
Dr. Dixie Keyes (right), professor of mid-level education and Dr. Rob Lamm, associate professor of English, are co-editors of Arkansas Anthology, sponsored by the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English (ACTELA), a National Council of Teachers of English affiliate. A recent NCTE blog entry features Keyes and creative work by Arkansas students. Keyes also is director of the Arkansas Delta Writing Project and an ACTELA board member.

Nalley to Lead 46th Childhood Services Conference
Jo Ann Nalley, director of Childhood Services, will lead an Arkansas tradition, the 46th annual Early Childhood Education Conference, Aug. 8-10. Themed "Why We Do the Things We Do," the conference is sponsored by Childhood Services and the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education. It offers informative, relevant and timely interest sessions and nationally known keynote speakers. Details are in the news release.
