Dr. Melodie Philhours, associate professor of marketing, presented "Consumer Persistence and Creativity in the Face of Extreme Shortage" at the  Society for Marketing Advances annual conference in Louisville, Ky. The study, co-authored by Dr. John Mello, professor of supply chain management, and Dr. Katerina Hill, assistant professor of marketing, explored the consumer phenomenon of reactance to extreme scarcity in the personal ammunition market, 2012-2016.

Dr. Maurice Gipson, who joined the A-State staff in 2015, has been appointed chief diversity officer by Chancellor Kelly Damphousse. Gipson's area, the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement, will report directly to the chancellor. In addition to continuing existing programs, one of his primary goals will be enhanced recruitment of students, faculty and staff from diverse communities. Details are in the news release.

The article " 'Really Social Photojournalism' and a Photojournalistic Changing of the Guard: Observations and Insights" by Dr. Gabriel Tait, assistant professor of multimedia journalism, was published in Visual Communication Quarterly. He examines the changing technological ecosystem in which photojournalists are seeking larger audiences through social media, but also searching for how best to work within a drastically changed market. Dr. Amy Shollenbarger, assistant professor of communication disorders and interim department chair, is first author of an article in the ASHA Perspectives Journal, published by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Dr. Christina Akbari, assistant professor of communication disorders, is co-author. Their research study revealed that college students do not show adequate knowledge about the causes or characteristics of stuttering. The article is available online.

Dr. James A. Doering, Jones/Schaaf Endowed Professor of Accounting, was guest speaker for the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants Ozark Chapter meeting and continuing professional education event. In his presentation, "Trends in Accounting: Changes and Challenges Facing the Profession," he discussed how technology will have the greatest impact on CPA firms, with cloud accounting, cyber security and artificial intelligence redefining service delivery.
