Buford's Study of Military Practices is Published
A new book by Dr. Kellie Buford, assistant professor of history, has been published by the University of Nebraska Press. Titled "Policing Sex and Marriage in the American Military: The Court-Martial and the Construction of Gender and Sexual Deviance, 1950-2000," the book is based on her research into hundreds of court-martial transcripts published by the U.S. Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps.

Nonis and Hudson Author Journal Articles
Congratulations to Dr. Sarath Nonis (right) and Dr. Gail Hudson, professors of marketing, on their recent publication in the Journal of Education for Business, "Developing and Assessing Critical Thinking Skills in Marketing Students: The Power of Making Explicit Problem-Solving Processes." The article is online. They also wrote two other articles, on students' time use and study habits, that are listed as "most read" by the same journal.

Stroud Co-Authors Article in Urban Journal
Dr. Bill Stroud, professor of geography, is co-author of an article published in The Urban Naturalist, a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary natural history science journal. The article is "Preserving Habitat for Athene cunicularia floridana (Florida Burrowing Owl): Challenges and Solutions from Cape Coral, Florida, USA." The authors explored how the city protected and preserved habitat for a threatened species in a rapidly growing urban area.

Brinkley and OBRE Staff Get Training Grant
Congratulations to Christy Brinkley, co-director, Office of Behavioral Research & Evaluation (OBRE), and OBRE staff who were co-writers with Mid-South Health Systems of a successful $375,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Funds will support mental health awareness training in a 13-county area and $37,500 to OBRE to evaluate the project.

Pace-Glover Recognized for Community Outreach
Dr. Tamara Pace-Glover, assistant professor of social work, received an Award of Excellence in Community Service for her community outreach efforts and focus on community engagement as a means of helping all Arkansans live a quality life. Her dedication and service to Arkansas was recently recognized with a proclamation by Mayor Harold Perrin. Pace-Glover will continue promoting her platform through her reign this year as Mrs. Arkansas United States.
