An article by Dr. Rollin F. Tusalem, associate professor of political science and director, M.A. program, will appear in the peer-reviewed journal Asian Journal of Comparative Politics. His findings suggest that the number of migrants (by province) and the amount of remittances sent by migrants are positively associated with governmental effectiveness and higher levels of human development at the provincial level. Dr. Ed Salo, assistant professor of history, was featured speaker for the Veterans Day "Celebration of Peace" observance of the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I on Nov. 11, 1918. In his presentation, "Three Monuments: Remembering the Great War in Northeast Arkansas," he discussed local citizens' efforts to memorialize World War I in this region. Dr. Fabricio Medina-Bolivar, professor of plant metabolic engineering, was an invited plenary speaker at the International Conference on Resveratrol and Health, in Xi'an, China. Medina-Bolivar's talk was titled "Sustainable Bioproduction and Biological Activities of Prenylated Stilbenoids," compounds that have potential treatment applications for cancer, Alzheimer's disease and rotavirus infections. His research has produced several publications and patents in the United States and Europe.

Dr. Gabriel Tait, assistant professor of multimedia journalism, is co-author of an article published in Visual Communication Quarterly. The authors studied the coverage of the deaths of African Americans Muhammad Ali and Maya Angelou, especially visual representation, on the front pages of 150 daily newspapers. Their analysis suggests that there are varying levels in the way icons are represented, depending on several key factors.

Four alumni of the College of Education and Behavioral Science, including Dr. Jackie McBride, professor of education, were recognized for their professional achievements during a Homecoming ceremony. McBride, one of the first graduates of A-State's Doctor of Education degree program, joined the faculty in 2002 after serving in three local area school districts as a classroom teacher, and later as principal and assistant superintendent in Jonesboro.
