Technology Team Advances Rice Yield Analysis
A collaboration of researchers led by Dr. Emily Bellis (left), bioinformatics, and Dr. Ahmed Hashem (right), agricultural systems technology, have written an article for Frontiers in Plant Science. Dr. Jason Causey, computer science, Dr. Steven Green, agriculture, and Dr. Xiuzhen Huang, Center for No-Boundary Thinking, along with Dr. Michele Reba, USDA, Dr. Tim Burcham, UA Division of Agriculture, and student Braden Burns are co-authors. They used drones and deep learning to detect variations in rice yields.

Sports Management Students at Final Four
Dr. HoYeol Yu, assistant professor of sport management, accompanied 10 Sport Management Club members to the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans, where they served as volunteers and assisted with the tournament. Yu and the other club advisers, Dr. Claudia Benavides Ambs, associate professor, and Dr. Neal Ternes, assistant professor, assisted the graduate and undergraduate students with preparations for their hands-on experience.

Nix, Norman and Clark Co-Author Nursing Article
Dr. Elizabeth S. Nix (left), professor of nursing, Dr. Bilinda Norman (center), associate professor of nursing, and Dr. Teresa Clark (right), assistant professor of nursing, are co-authors of an article in the latest issue of Imprint, the National Student Nurses’ Association magazine. In “Educating Tomorrow’s Nurses to Care for the Least of Us,” they emphasize the importance of student nurses serving the most vulnerable populations.

Pan Studies Brand Personality in Sponsorships
Dr. Po-Lin Pan, professor of strategic communication, is lead author of an article published in the Journal of Sports Media. The study examines whether team performance and gender difference jointly impacted consumers’ perceived brand personality, and how team identification and self-brand connection moderates such impacts on perceived brand personality in the context of sports sponsorship. Team performance that evokes emotions greatly impacts consumers' perceived brand personality.

Desai Researches Pandemic’s Business Impact
Research by Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, assistant professor of accounting, been featured in the Oxford Business Law Blog, which included a summary of his work documenting the real effects of COVID-19 risk factor disclosures in companies’ Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Desai concluded that if the companies disclosed their pandemic risks in a certain manner, these disclosures tended to bias investors’ perceptions. The blog is online.
