Davis and Team Unveil New Virtual Museum
Dr. Andrea Davis, assistant professor of history, and a team including historians, cultural studies scholars, and digital humanities specialists have launched the “Virtual Museum of the Spanish Civil War.” The five-year project, supported by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and Spain's Ministry of Culture and Sport, produced a digital museum that communicates the war’s history through contextualized objects, such as photographs, archaeological remains, and technological artifacts. Crist Releases New CD of Electronic Music
A CD recording of original electronic music by Dr. Tim Crist, professor of music, has been released. The Long Waves is available through various download services. Crist composed, recorded and mixed all seven selections on the CD, including “riverride,” for which he used tape-splicing techniques and two reel-to-reel tape decks. The release also was favorably reviewed by Avant Music News. Details are on Crist’s website.

Shields Selected for Microbiology Lectureship
Dr. Robert Shields, assistant professor of microbiology, was selected to receive the 2022 Randall Lectureship Award, presented by the South Central Branch of the American Society for Microbiology. Shields presented his lecture and accepted the award during the organization’s annual conference, which was hosted by Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Shields was nominated for the award by Dr. Stephen Mullin, chair, Department of Biological Sciences.

The website WalletHub, which provides financial advice, recently included a segment in its “Ask the Experts” section that features an interview with Dr. Erick P.C. Chang, associate professor of management. Chang commented on how competition and security concerns are improving credit card options for businesses. He also offered guidance for business owners and discussed the outlook for card use in the current economic environment.

Newman Discusses Ground Pork’s Revival
An article by Dr. David Newman, professor of animal science, was published recently in Farm Journal’s Pork magazine. Newman discusses the revived popularity of ground pork products, noting the original ‘ham’ burger is back. Consumer behavior regarding ground meat, largely driven by a desire for new food experiences during the pandemic, has resulted in ground pork sales up 30% this year compared to 2019.
