Jody Nutt, assistant professor of medical imaging and radiation sciences, was appointed radiation therapy chapter delegate for the 2024 American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) House of Delegates, the governing body for professional practice standards. The ASRT House of Delegates meets annually to debate and vote on clinical practice and educational standards. Delegates represent their chapters, consisting of specialists in the field, and act on issues that affect professional practice.

An article by Dr. Jessie King, assistant professor of special education, has been published in the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) special education e-journal. The article explores the use of action research in pre-service teaching programs and shares how action research serves to help improve teachers' classroom practices. This hands-on approach fosters reflective teaching and professional development, preparing future educators to effectively address classroom challenges.

Dr. Justin Castro, professor of history and director of the graduate program, authored a historiographic essay on Spanish language histories of engineering in Latin America. The essay was published in the international journal Technology and Culture. Castro also will be presenting and participating in an authors’ roundtable at the joint Society for the History of Technology and International Committee for the History of Technology meeting in Chile.

Congratulations to Dr. Amanda Carpenter, assistant professor of public health and program director, was selected by Arkansas Business Publishing Group as one of its 2024 “40 under 40” honorees. She and the other recipients will be honored June 11 at Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Carpenter was selected for her work in developing the A-State public health undergraduate program and her community-based research focused on increasing vaccination in minority communities.

Dr. Angelo Brown, assistant professor of criminology, presented at the annual conference of the Association for the Study of Law, Culture and the Humanities in British Columbia. He analyzed the impact of recent laws related to academic freedom on U.S. college campuses. This week he will present his research into how various news sources frame issues related to gun laws, and how legislative approaches are portrayed, at the Duke Center for Firearms Law Works-in-Progress Conference
