In response to a proposal by Matthew Mayton, archivist, Dean B. Ellis Library, the Kays Foundation has awarded a $8,470 grant to the Archives for a project to digitize oral history interviews gathered from 1979 to 1995 by the Mid-South Center for Oral History. The center, initiated by the Department of History, recorded recollections of area residents, including several university faculty and staff. Conversion of the taped content will help ensure future access for research.

Nikki Arnell, associate professor of graphic design, made a presentation on information graphics at the VisComm38 Conference in June. This month she will present a comparative analysis of design education pioneers at the International Academic Conference on Research in Social Sciences in Oxford, England. Also, her article on the popularity of sans serif typefaces will appear in Intercom, published by the Society for Technical Communication.

A paper co-authored by Dr. María de la Soledad del Río, professor of physics and mathematics, Campus Querétaro, has been published in a special issue, Remote Sensing in Viticulture II. They characterize the phenological dynamics of the different varieties of two vineyards using Sentinel-2 as well as spectral and thermal indices. They found the combination of meteorological and remote sensing data provides information for choosing a suitable grape variety for the region.

Dr. Kyle Gustafson, assistant professor of biology, is co-author of two chapters in the open access textbook Concepts in Animal Parasitology. Within this textbook, Gustafson co-authored both chapter 4, "Hosts, Reservoirs, and Vectors," and chapter 5, "Life Cycles," which will have lasting impacts on the field of parasitology for teaching and research applications. Kari Harris, director, Student Research, is principal investigator (PI) for a National Science Foundation EPSCoR grant to support the organization of the Arkansas Research Support and Engagement Network (ARSEN). She and representatives from UALR and UA-Fayetteville are members of an organizing committee that conducted a workshop at the ASU System Office and UALR for fellow student research administrators. ARSEN members hope to develop collaborative programs to benefit Arkansas university students.
