Izadyar Secures Two Research Grants
Dr. Anahita Izadyar, professor of chemistry, recently received two research grants. The Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) approved a $36,800 grant for “A Disposable Electrochemical Immunosensor for Early Detection of Alzheimer's Disease." Also, the Faculty Research Awards Committee (FRAC) awarded a $6,493 grant for "Using a disposable sensor to detect the concentration of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in tap water."

Lin is Co-Author of Newly Published Paper
Dr. Nanying Lin, assistant professor of finance, is corresponding author for an article published in Financial Management. The authors found that in a financial market where investors disagree about future asset price, skilled hedge fund managers can take advantage of an aggregate disagreement. They can earn higher returns compared to other hedge funds lacking this skill, which is measurable using fund-level disagreement beta. The article is online.

Salo is Panelist for Session at West Point
Dr. Edward Salo, professor of history, served on a panel that discussed “Emerging Domains of Warfare” at "The Class of 2006 War Studies Conference: Expecting the Unexpected: Preparing for Strategic Surprises in the 21st Century." The panel examined how potential opponents might use weapons, tools or strategies that have roots in the past on modern-day battlefields. The session was at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Desai’s Research on IRS Transcripts Accepted
An article by Dr. Hrishikesh Desai, assistant professor of accounting, has been accepted for publication in EA Journal, a prestigious tax industry publication. The paper, on decoding IRS transcripts, employs big data analytics to extract and examine sentiments from tax community discussions. Desai also was an invited speaker at the ARCPA annual accounting and auditing conference on strategic applications of artificial intelligence tools and technologies in accounting.

Gustafson Joins Journal’s Editorial Team
Dr. Kyle Gustafson, assistant professor of biology, and graduate students Taylor Fiedor, Samuel Messinides and Maria Bollinger presented at the American Society of Parasitology in Denver. Gustafson, Fiedor and Bollinger made oral presentations on the ecology of trematodes or coccidia of freshwater snails in Arkansas, while Messinides presented a poster on the evolutionary genetics of trematodes. Gustafson also was invited to serve as associate editor for The Journal of Parasitology.
