13th annual 'Celebration of Quilting' awards announced May 19 at Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center

Visitors' Choice awards were announced during the thirteenth annual “Celebration of Quilting” on Saturday, May 19, at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC), 1021 W. Cherry Street, Piggott. 

Visitors’ Choice ribbons were awarded in multiple categories. Special Sizes: first, second, and third place, Sharon Thielemier, Pocahontas. Hand Quilted: first place, Pauline Jones Austin, Paragould; second place, Wanda Prince, Paragould; third place, Carol Gunn, Pollard; Machine Quilted: first place, Lillian Pittman, Paragould; second place, Sharon Thielemier, Pocahontas; third place, Misty Long, Oak Grove Heights. Art and Photo: first place, Janet Hale, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; second place, Sharon Thielemier, Pocahontas; third place, Louise Caldwell, Piggott. Aged Quilts: first place, Gladys Loveless, Jonesboro; second place, Carol Gunn, Pollard; third place, Susan Alexander, Piggott.

"Celebration of Quilting" is an annual event at HPMEC in honor of Paul M. Pfeiffer and his practice of buying quilts from ladies of the Piggott community in the 1930s. HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site. Regular Museum hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, 1-3 p.m., with tours on the hour.
