A-State’s 4th Annual Howler Run is Saturday, Sept. 17
JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Red Wolf Cadets and students are hosting the fourth annual Howler Run on Saturday, Sept. 17.
This fundraiser for the A-State cadets is a run of about seven miles, with 12 or more obstacles. The Military Science Building is the starting point for the race and the first team will start at 10 a.m.
This year the race has three divisions, with staggered registration and start times. High school and Junior ROTC teams register at 9, followed by athletic and CrossFit teams at 11 a.m., then open class at 1 p.m. Some of the race obstacles include the pond trudge, hay bale wall, buddy carry, tire flip, arctic dumpster dive, tire field and Humvee push.
Cadet Hayden Blankenship of Heber Springs, who is in charge of the Howler Run this year, commented, “The Howler is an awesome event that challenges the body and mind. The event focuses on teamwork and perseverance, which is at the heart of who we are as a nation. This year’s Howler looks to be our largest event yet. I sincerely want to thank our Jonesboro community sponsors for their support over the past four years. The proceeds will help fund special events held throughout the year.”
Anyone can participate in the race in teams of five for a fee of $100 per group, or $25 per person for those who choose to participate individually. Payments can be made by credit card online at AState.edu/Howler or by dropping the payment off at the Military Science Building between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Runners must turn in a signed liability waiver prior to entrance into the race. To register, one may contact David Hastings at (870) 972-2064 or david.hastings@smail.AState.edu.
