A-State's Family Weekend is Friday thru Sunday
JONESBORO – A-State's first Family Weekend starts Friday and continues through Sunday, Sept. 21-23.
"Family weekend is coming up here at Arkansas State University," said Chancellor Kelly Damphousse. "Beth and I are really looking forward to seeing all of our Red Wolf family come together as we take on UNLV in football."
Beth Damphousse, added, "That's right, we're going to have lots of activities to fill your whole weekend with fun things to do."
One of the major activities will be a tailgate for all students and their families at the Chancellor's Residence, 1503 East Nettleton, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. In addition to lunch and giveaways, there will games, snow cones, a photo booth and a petting zoo.
The first 100 individuals to arrive at the Family Weekend event at the Chancellor’s Residence will receive a special wristband that grants them field access for pregame activities. The A-State Family of the Year, selected from nominations, also will be announced at the football game.
Campus athletic events Friday include soccer vs. Louisiana-Monroe at 3 p.m., and volleyball vs. Troy at 6:30 p.m.
Student organization activities scheduled for Friday include National Pan-Hellenic Council's Best Steppers on the Yard Greek Show at 7 p.m., followed by the St. Jude Up 'til Dawn Glow Run starting at 8 p.m., presented by Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Leadership Center.
Activities Saturday begin early with the Regional Farmers Market opening at 7 a.m., followed by the Game Day 5K with Chancellor Damphousse at 8 a.m., starting from the Red Wolf Statue on Aggie Road.
The Hijinx Kids Zone at the Student Activity Center is open from 3 until 5:30 p.m., and admission is free.
Athletic events Saturday include rugby vs. Ole Miss at 1 p.m., and the Red Wolf Walk through Tailgate Town starting at 3:45. The kickoff for the football game is set for 6 p.m.
Volleyball return to the court Sunday, as the team hosts South Alabama beginning at noon. Information on tickets for the Step Show, Glow Run, volleyball and football, along with other details, is available on the Family Weekend website, or one may call the A-State Leadership Center, (870) 972-2055.
