02/04/2013

During the 2013 Pride Day Awards Ceremony, student leaders recognized individuals and groups who have added to the rich pride and traditions at Arkansas State University, according to Charmaine Foster, Spirit Club director for the Student Activities Board.

The recipient of the Scarlet Bella Award was Darla Fletcher, director of technical services and support in Information Technology Services. While presenting the award, Brian Boyer, head coach for women’s basketball, cited Fletcher for being “ . . . always cheerful and eager to assist students, faculty, and staff. She works diligently to provide top notch customer service and is an encourager, school spirited, and genuine.”

The second award recipient was Megan Morris, who received the Howler Award. Morris is the ASU Cheerleading sponsor and also an advisor for Alpha Omicron Pi.

Cara Prichard, director of the Student Activities Board, cited Morris as an ASU alumna who constantly gives back to her alma mater. “She has dedicated countless hours to both cheerleading squads and serving as a sorority advisor. It is through her love and dedication to us that we see what it means to truly give back and be a part of something bigger than ourselves.”

This year’s winner of the Alpha Wolf Award was a booster group, the Baptist Collegiate Ministry Naked Guys. Colea Blann, president of the Student Activities Board, said this award is given to a family, organization, or group that has faithfully exhibited their superb support for Arkansas State through the donation of time, gifts, or talent.

“This group is seen at athletic events cheering on the Red Wolves and they embody the spirit of the Red Wolf rising. Through their actions, this group has encouraged other students and organizations to feel the spirit and support our athletic teams. They have become a fixture at games throughout the year for multiple athletic events.”

Foster also announced that Sodexho Dining Services was the overall winner of the annual office decorating contest, and Kathleen Finnegan won the first “den decorating” competition is. Den decorating was for an individual’s room, apartment, or hall. Finnegan, who is a hall director for Collegiate Park apartments, decorated the clubhouse. She is a graduate student in the college student personnel services program and is from Lawrence, Kan.
