BAM to Host Two Companion Exhibitions Alongside DNSPE

01/17/2025

JONESBORO — The annual Delta National Small Prints Exhibition (DNSPE) will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, alongside its companion exhibitions “SunSoilSkin&Bone” and “Informing the Present,” with a reception at Bradbury Art Museum (BAM) in Fowler Center at Arkansas State University.

“SunSoilSkin&Bone” is a solo exhibition of artwork from Jillian Marie Browning, an Alabama-based artist and educator.

Browning received a bachelor’s degree in photography from the University of Central Florida in 2012 and a master’s degree in studio art from Florida State University in 2015. She currently serves as assistant professor of photography at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Browning’s exhibition prominently features the cyanotype process, an alternative photographic process that dates back to 1845. Her work considers the way personal identity is assembled through one’s body image and racial identity.

The work of M. Robyn Wall, assistant professor of printmaking at A-State, will be exhibited in a solo show titled “Informing the Present.” Wall’s work centers around reimagined spaces, an idea explored through prints as well as a constructed installation built inside the gallery space.

“I am working to acknowledge the fluidity of place while reflecting both real and imagined spaces,” Wall said.

She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Manitoba and her master’s degree from Louisiana State University. She joined the faculty at A-State in 2024.

“These companion exhibitions invite our visitors to explore additional possibilities within print- and photo-based artwork, through handmade paper, constructed spaces, and larger-than-life portraiture,” said Madeline McMahan, assistant director and curator at BAM.

“Both artists make work that is so meaningful and also a little unexpected. Robyn created an entire wooden structure inside the gallery. Jillian’s work includes paper made from cotton and hair.”

Prior to the opening reception for DNSPE, one may attend an artist talk at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23. Visiting DNSPE artist Zoë Couvillion will be delivering a talk about printmaking as a discipline as well as her own studio practice.

At 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, Browning will give a talk about her artwork and solo exhibition.

Bradbury Art Museum is located in Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive. Hours of operation are from noon until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Viewers may also schedule a tour of the exhibitions by contacting McMahan, at mmcmahan@AState.edu or 870-972-3434. More details about these shows are available online at BradburyArtMuseum.org.

Admission to the artist talks, reception and exhibitions is free. The shows will continue through Feb. 26.
