Celebrate Pack Pride with Student Activities Board during ‘Spirit Week’

02/11/2014

JONESBORO––The Student Activities Board (SAB) at Arkansas State University has hosted A-State Pride Day during the basketball season for more than 10 years. This year SAB directors and committee members wanted to extend that day to a full week and host a “spirit week.”

According to Jillian Pace and Nathan Nelson, spirit club co-directors for SAB, students will be able to appreciate what it truly means to be a Red Wolf this week with the many exciting events and activities planned. “We hope to see many students come by our table and take pictures in our photo booth, play some games for prizes, and enter their names in our drawing each day for a basket full of Red Wolf goodies.”

“Spirit week” will begin on Monday, Feb. 17, and continue through Thursday, Feb. 20.

Natalie Eskew, assistant dean in Student Affairs, said, “We have received requests from students to host a variety of dress up days, so we have incorporated that throughout the week.” Monday, the theme is ‘The Walking Red’ where participants are to dress like zombies, using red as the main color.

In addition, there will be competitions, a social media scavenger hunt and giveaways throughout the week. Howl and Scarlett will also be making appearances at various events.

Clubs can get involved by participating in the Registered Student Organization night. It will be held during the women’s basketball game on Wednesday evening. The organization that displays the most spirit will be awarded a $100 cash prize from athletics.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to show their pride by participating in the office decorating contest.

Students have the opportunity to recognize someone they think shows A-State pride everyday of the year by nominating faculty, staff, or an exemplary family for an A-State Pride Day award.

“I’m excited about ‘spirit week,’ I think it will really fire up my inner Red Wolf,” said Katie Elms, a junior social work major of Ash Flat.

The week concludes on Thursday with the traditional A-State Pride Day. The awards ceremony will be at noon at the Carl R. Reng Student Union.  That evening at the men’s basketball game, Greek night will be held and there will be a “craziest fan” competition. The most spirited Greek organization will win a $150 cash prize from athletics. The craziest fans as decided by members of SAB will be awarded and receive A-State swag.

Students are encouraged to follow the excitement all week long on Twitter and Instagram with #packpride and follow @astatesab.  For Facebook, search A-State SAB.

Flyers with a complete list of events are posted throughout the university.
