College of Business to Host Fifth International Exhibition
JONESBORO — Students, both international and American, from Arkansas State University’s College of Business will host the fifth annual “International Exhibition of Regions, Countries, Exports” to display booths showcasing multiculturalism from more than 10 countries and five regions.
In addition to student participation, representatives from Arkansas District Export Council (DEC), U.S. Export Assistance Center from the Department of Commerce, and Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at A-State will be on hand to answer questions concerning starting and maintaining export businesses.
The event is set for Thursday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Centennial Hall at the Carl R. Reng Student Union, 101 N. Caraway Road. It is free and open to the public.
“Student exhibitors will focus on history, culture, doing business, and the competitive advantage of these countries and regions,” said Dr. Sarath Nonis, professor of marketing. “Most of the exhibits are results of international students from various countries working with local students in order for viewers to see first hand how our students are effectively working across cultures to expand their global mindset.”
Nonis also mentioned that students representing the countries will be able to answer questions about the external environment such as culture, economic and political, as well as competitive advantage. Among the countries on display are China, Japan, Finland, Vietnam, South Korea and Spain. Displayed regions are Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, India, China and Nepal.
Several countries involved in in-depth presentations about conducting business in specific countries are Spain, France, China, India, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.
The keynote speaker is Jim Aardappel, director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center who will address the attendees at 10 a.m. Following are the displays, sampling ethnic foods from a few countries and some cultural entertainment, including singing and dancing, provided by A-State international students.
Also, breakout sessions lasting 15- to 20-minutes each will provide students the opportunity to discuss doing business in specific countries.
