Dance Performance Premiere is Planned for A-State Delta Symposium

03/28/2025

JONESBORO – The 30th annual Delta Symposium will host a premiere dance performance by Facet Dance Collective of Arkansas. Sponsored by Arkansas State University’s Department of English, Philosophy and World Languages and Black River Technical College, the symposium will culminate with the performance titled "Movement in Time."

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the Simpson Theatre at the Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive. Admission is free.

Based in northeastern Arkansas, Facet Dance Collective was born out of the dreams of two adult recreational dancers who seek to share that dance is for everyone. Their performances allow audience and dancers the opportunity to be inspired and uplifted through artistic expression.

Facet Dance Collective offers performances that bring stories and characters to life on stage. Jessica Maddox notes, “We bring classical and contemporary ballet to our community and give adult dancers of all bodies and backgrounds opportunities to perform. In these universal stories, we relate to each other and build stronger communities.”

The arts group staged an original work titled “Dancing About the Weather” at last year’s symposium and throughout the state. They are returning this year with the premiere of "Movement in Time." This multi-genre dance performance consists of solos, duets and group pieces.

Maddox explains that each piece is assigned a time on our 24-hour clock. “From this framework, we will observe time and its relationship to nature, human relationships and culture.” The choreography was inspired by the theme of the entire symposium, “It’s About Time,” and explores how we perceive time within our own experiences.

The Delta Symposium is coordinated through the Department of English, Philosophy and World Languages. For further information, contact the department at (870) 972-3043 or visit the symposium website: AState.edu/delta-symposium. All Delta Symposium events are free and open to the public.
