03/24/2016

JONESBORO – The second annual Delta Flix Film and Media Festival will run Wednesday through Saturday, April 13-16, at Arkansas State University's Reng Student Union.

Delta Flix Film and Media Festival will run concurrent with the 22nd annual Delta Symposium.   The two share a common theme of "Representing Cultural Heritage," so some of the sessions with visual content will be conducted jointly.

"These presentations are a perfect example of how the two areas of the university can work together to present scholarship and media content that focus on common themes," according to Dr. Michael Bowman, assistant professor of creative media production and director of the Delta Flix Film and Media Festival.

Delta Flix Film and Media Festival is based in Media and Communication, while Delta Symposium is based in Humanities and Social Sciences.

The festival keynote speaker will be Academy Award-winner Marjorie Hunt, who will discuss her featured film, "The Grand Generation."  Her film, described as a ". . . warm portrait of six elderly Americans whose vigor belies their age," will be shown Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m.  Hunt also is involved in some of the Delta Symposium sessions.

Another of the films to be shown is "I'm Not There," a story about the career of American music icon Bob Dylan.  Those attending the screening, which begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, also will be interested in the Delta Symposium's "Dylan Days" activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.

"Front Porch Blues Bash," a documentary about the annual King Biscuit Blues Festival at Helena, is on the schedule for Friday, April 15, starting at 4:15 p.m.

Delta Flix Film and Media Festival sessions will include two oral histories that focus on World War II, and photography presentations that illustrate the region's cultural heritage.  Students and professionals have entries in the festival.  All sessions are free and open to the public.

The complete Delta Flix Film and Media Festival schedule of presentations, including films, photographs and oral histories, is online.

Admission is free.  For additional details, one may contact Bowman by email at mbowman@astate.edu or by calling the Department of Media, (870) 972-3070.
