Halloween-Themed Events Fill Calendar This Week

JONESBORO – Students, faculty and staff at Arkansas State University have scheduled several Halloween-themed events and activities on campus this week.

All events are required to operate under standard university coronavirus protocols.  The majority of Halloween week events are virtual, but for those meeting in-person, participants are required to maintain physical distancing and masks where applicable.

Special events on the list, with details on access, include:

Wednesday, Oct. 28

The H.O.W.L. Transition Program Halloween Social, during which students will practice independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking and social skills, starts at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pavilion. The event is open to H.O.W.L. students, staff and mentors.

The Department of Art + Design is hosting the online Halloween Game Jam, during which teams and individuals will create video games related to a spooky theme.  The online platform is open from 8 until midnight, Wednesday through Saturday.  Everyone is welcome to participate by registering at Itch.io.

Student Activities Board will present Peter Boie and his famous show “Summoning Spirits” in an online format at 10:30 p.m. Filled with spooky stories and tricks, Boie will get participants ready for Halloween.  The SAB social media accounts will have more details and the link.

Thursday, Oct. 29

Members of Zeta Tau Alpha will host an invitation-only social event, Spook-tacular Sisterhood, with other sororities to create new friendships and memories. Beginning at 6 p.m. near the ZTA house, participants will be painting pumpkins, roasting marshmallows/making s’mores, and playing cornhole.  Attendees are invited to dress in Halloween costumes.

Phi Beta Sigma fraternity will host "horror movie trivia" at 7:14 p.m. by way of the Zoom online platform, letting individuals show their knowledge of horror movies.  Participants will need the Kahoot app or can use the website.

The Student Activities Board and Fowler Center will host their second annual Haunted House, starting at 8 p.m. in Fowler Center.  Snacks and games will be included.

Friday, Oct. 30

International Programs will present its HOWLoween Celebration for members of the A-State community, with trick-or-treating and a scary movie.  Refreshments start at 2:30 p.m., with the movie at 3:30 p.m., at the International Program building.

Fraternity & Sorority Life invites families and children to attend the eighth annual Trick-or-Treat with the Greeks Halloween event, running 4:30-6:30 p.m. in a drive-thru format at the Tomlinson Stadium parking lot.

The Department of Art + Design faculty will host their second annual Halloween Arts Bash, 5-7 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center.  Visitors should dress up for Halloween and stop by for games, a haunted gauntlet, photo booth, and candy.

Saturday, Oct. 31

The week wraps up with intercollegiate football, as the Red Wolves host the Troy Trojans for a 2 p.m. Sun Belt Conference contest at Centennial Bank Stadium.
