Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center to open exhibit May 10 to honor Pfeiffer family

04/26/2013

PIGGOTT –The Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center (HPMEC) has announced a new exhibit opening May 10. This summer marks the 100th anniversary of the Pfeiffers’ arrival in Piggott. In honor of their impact on Northeast Arkansas, HPMEC is opening a special exhibit that investigates the Pfeiffer family more fully.

“View from the Hill” explores the globally connected Pfeiffer family. Paul and Mary Pfeiffer moved their family from St. Louis, Missouri, to Piggott, Arkansas, on July 4, 1913, choosing the pace of a small agricultural community over the bustle of the big city.

Despite this choice, the Pfeiffers remained connected to the wider world through Paul’s siblings, who were spread across the country and conducted business on an international scale.

The exhibit will open with a free open house May 10 from 3-4 p.m. that afternoon. Refreshments will be provided. The exhibit will remain open throughout the summer.

HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site. Regular museum hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Saturday, 1-3 p.m., with tours on the hour. For more information call 870-598-3487.
