10/06/2014

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Jazz Studies will present “Blues In the Night,” a concert featuring the Jazz Lab Band and the A-State Jazz Orchestra, on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Fowler Center's Riceland Hall, 201 Olympic Dr.

These exciting groups are an obvious source of pride for the university and community, recently selected to perform at the Clinton Library and as the feature group for the Missouri Bandmasters Jazz Festival, according to Dr. Kenneth Carroll, director of jazz studies and associate professor of music.

The show will open with the Jazz Lab Band playing great standards like “My Funny Valentine” arr. Bowyer, “Coyote Woman Blues” by McIntosh, “We’re Not Just Delivering Pizza Anymore” by Tom Kubis, and “I Want You” arranged by Mike Medrick.

After a brief intermission, the A-State Jazz Orchestra will present “So In Love” by Tom O’Connor, “Squeeze This Mr. Whipple” by Allen Carter, “Blue Skies” arranged by Medrick, “St. Louis Blues” arranged by Carter, and the show will close with Medrick’s arrangement of the Mingus classic “Haitian Fight Song.”

The concert is free, and the public is welcome.  For additional details, one may call the Department of Music at (870) 972-2094.
