Jazz Orchestra to Present ‘Swinging into Summer’ at Clinton Presidential Park

04/21/2014

JONESBORO – The Arkansas State University Jazz Orchestra will perform its “Swinging into Summer” program on the east lawn of the Clinton Presidential Park in Little Rock on Friday, April 25, at 6 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

The orchestra was invited by the Clinton Foundation and Arkansas Jazz Educators to participate in the Arkansas State Jazz Festival, a celebration of International Jazz Appreciation Month.  Numerous other school and professional jazz bands from across the state also are on the two-day program.

“We are proud and humbled to perform at the event, representing the institution and the outstanding music instruction at Arkansas State,” says Dr. Ken Carroll, director.

The group will perform music written for the jazz orchestra by Dr. Tom O’Connor, emeritus professor of music at A-State, and will also feature guest trombone artist Dr. Don Bowyer, dean of the College of Fine Arts.

Selections to be performed include: “In a Sentimental Mood” by Duke Ellington, arranged by Slide Hamilton, “Night Train” by Count Basie, “A Little Minor Booze” by Stan Kenton, “The Jody Grind” by Clayton-Hamilton Big Band, “Reverend Jack” by Bob Washut, “Sammy” and “Beach Music” both by Tom O’Connor.
