KASU Bluesday Tuesday to feature Jess Hoggard Band Jan. 8
JONESBORO, Ark. — The Jess Hoggard Band, a group of experienced bluesmen from Little Rock and Jonesboro, will play for the next KASU Bluesday Tuesday Jan. 8 at Newport Country Club, 703 Walker Drive, from 7-9 p.m. The band includes some icons of Little Rock’s music scene from the last 40 years.
Charles Woods demonstrates masterful guitar skills and smooth mature vocals on a repertoire that ranges from B.B. King to Merle Haggard. Ivan Yarbrough is one of the most sought after bass players in central Arkansas and is a veteran of blues, rock and pop cover bands since the 1970s. Cecil Parker is a drummer-in-demand who, like Woods and Yarbrough, played with the great Arkansas blues man Albert King and other blues masters.
These three veteran players will join the raucously energetic singer and blues guitarist Jess Hoggard of Jonesboro for a concert that Bluesday Tuesday concert goers will enjoy, according to KASU manager Mike Doyle.
“After the Jess Hoggard Band played at Bluesday Tuesday in June of 2011, our concert goers told us they wanted to hear them again. This one of the most authentic and solidly professional blues groups around. These natives of the natural state present homegrown Arkansas blues at its best, both smooth and raw,” said Doyle.
KASU 91.9 FM, the public radio service of Arkansas State University, presents these concerts free to the public on the second Tuesday night each month at the Newport Country Club ballroom. The Bluesday Tuesday concerts are sponsored by ASU-Newport, C&C Distributors and Harris Ford in Newport. KASU passes the hat to collect tips for the band.
