Lecture Series to Feature Expert on Science of Learning
JONESBORO – Gregg Goodhart, self-described as The Learning Coach, returns to Arkansas State University for a week-long series of events including a public lecture as part of the Lecture-Concert Series, 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, room 1028.
Admission to this and all Lecture-Concert Series events is free.
“This is an event that every teacher, student, parent, mentor and anyone who is serious about learning should attend. Gregg is an absolute master teacher,” says Dr. Timothy Crist, professor of music. "I have seen students empowered by Gregg’s advice literally jump for joy coming out of his classes, realizing that the keys to success lie completely within their control. It is something miraculous, fully grounded in research, and has potential to be life-changing."
Goodhart’s passion for teaching learning strategies led him to a long period of research in the areas of cognitive and behavioral neuroscience and psychology. The result has been the development of innovative workshops and presentations he presents to schools and universities throughout the country and the world.
The practical methods he discusses in these workshops are backed, informed and shaped by relevant research that leaves students and teachers with significant ways to improve their teaching, learning and practice.
During his A-State residency, Goodhart will instruct students in a variety of disciplines across campus, including music, nursing and physical education, discuss current research in the science of learning with A-State faculty and administrators, and host several outreach events with area schools.
This Lecture-Concert Series appearance is presented with additional funding support from College of Liberal Arts and Communication, the Department of Music, the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Sciences, and the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
The Lecture-Concert Series serves Arkansas State and the surrounding communities by bringing notable guest speakers and performers of diverse backgrounds and wide appeal to the campus.
