National School Boards Association President to Keynote Northeast Arkansas School Boards Event

03/11/2014

JONESBORO – David Pickler, National School Boards Association (NSBA) president, will be the keynote speaker for the Northeast Arkansas School Boards dinner hosted by the College of Education and Behavioral Science at Arkansas State University.  The dinner will be held at the Carl R. Reng Student Union on Tuesday, March 18, at 6 p.m.

Pickler graduated magna cum laude from A-State in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in business management. He is now the president and CEO of Pickler Wealth Advisors in Collierville, Tenn.

His involvement with the school system began through participation with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at his children’s schools in Tennessee. Pickler was elected to Shelby County School Board of Education in 1998 and served as chairman for 12 years. During that time, Pickler joined the NSBA Board of Directors in 2008 and was elected as the secretary-treasurer in 2011 and president-elect in 2012.  Currently he is serving as NSBA President.

“David Pickler is a strong advocate for local school governance to advance our public education system for all children…a committed, effective and respected school board leader,” said NSBA’s executive director, Thomas Gentzel.

In 2013, The Academy of Education Arts and Sciences presented Pickler with the Bammy Award in the school board category, giving him recognition as “School Board Member of the Year.” The award "identifies and acknowledges the extraordinary work being done across the entire education field every day."

The event is free and open to all Northeast Arkansas school board members, superintendents, and A‑State education faculty.
